There’s a Korean proverb that loosely translates to “gives the sickness and the medicine at once” and that’s how I feel about AFP right now. There’s been an undeniable erosion of trust for them as an institution with the anti-Black racism, failure to take accountability, and lack of apology. However, their decision to appoint Mide Akerewusi, B.Sc., M.Sc. (Econ), CSR-P, CDEP. as Board Chair for AFP-GTC and seek his advice for reconciliation and repair truly gives me hope that we can begin to work towards a new future.
Congratulations Mide! I celebrate you. I honour your decision to take up this tremendous task. And I stand beside you, as all the co-conspirators do, with unwavering support.
This is precisely the type of leadership we need in the Toronto fundraising community- clarity, transparency, and a refusal to accept anything other than a commitment to truth in our shared work of equity.
